Oh what a feeling

I’m back baby!
My sneakers hit the pavement on Sunday and the treadmill today, and oh what a pleasant surprise it was to feel no pain!
None. Nada. Zilch.
My physio gave me the go-ahead to start running again last week, as my body was all in alignment again, my aches and pains had eased somewhat, and my limbs had pretty much been on bed rest for a good two months. I was planning on waiting until this coming Sunday to give myself a little more recovery padding, but, well, I just couldn’t do it … I was seriously like a kid on Christmas morning when he told me to give it a go; I could barely even wait the couple of days I actually did.
But, as is the recurring theme of this blog, I want to do it right this time.
So, on Sunday afternoon (before Turkey Time) Mario and I took a quick jaunt out to the industrial park, which has nice, flat, smooth pavement, to analyze my running form – via video. He clamped the video camera onto his car and drove in front of me, behind me and beside me for a good two kilometres.
The results: It’s a work in progress.

I was a little worried starting out, wondering if I’d even remember how to cycle my feet in front of me one after the other. My body was clenched and tight, my shoulders kept creeping up into my neck, and my shoes were just a slapping the pavement. The only thing loose about me were my fists – it’s a start 😉
But once I started questioning every stride – Am I light on my feet? Are my shoulders loose? Are my abs tight? Am I leaning with my hips – I started to feel myself slowly loosen up and relax and enjoy. And let me just say, feeling that brisk wind brush over my skin was the most amazing feeling, a feeling I never want to be without again.
That being said, though, I was quite shocked, and yeah, somewhat appalled, to see how I actually looked while running. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always known I looked funny running, every one does, but my gawd, I didn’t think I waddled! Was that a princess running or a duck???
The plan is to go out again with the camera in a month and hopefully see some improvements … and lose the duck 😛
Stay tuned.
