Good golly it was a pink-filled world today – my perfect kind of day!
I went to three schools for work today and everywhere I turned there were students in pink, teachers in pink, even a principal wearing a pink tie. And yes, this fine, young reporter was wearing oodles of pink hues too! Were you?
The story of anti-bullying day, also known as pink shirt day, is pretty amazing when you think about it. It all started from the warm hearts of two Grade 12 students in Nova Scotia who would not stand for bullying at their school. In a matter of protest, after a younger student was harassed, threatened and called gay for wearing pink to school, David Shepherd and Travis Price went out and bought 50 pink shirts from a discount store, and got the word out to their fellow classmates via email that bullying was just not acceptable – the next day, hundreds of students showed up to school in pink. Now, millions across the country are doing the same.
And hopefully that beautiful spring-like colour will help kids (and adults) think before they make fun of someone for having different hair, or a different way of talking, or have a disease like diabetes – yep, I too was bullied in school because I wasn’t “normal.”
Well bullies, news flash: Normal is boring!
I was planning on doing a gym workout tonight, but the weather was just so perfect, I couldn’t really pass up a road run … although, it took everything I had to get my butt out the door. I almost even bailed. I didn’t get home until 6:30 p.m. and I was noodling around on the Internet for a bit, and before I knew it, it was already almost 7 p.m. And I was thinking of all the TV I had to catch up on (24, Amazing Race, and I think there’s something else on the PVR too) but Mario’s voice (he was out on a road ride) kept ringing like a nuisance in my ear – I knew as soon as he walked through the door of the condo, the first thing he’d ask is “Did you go to the gym?” which he did.
Good thing I went for a run, hey 🙂
I was feeling a little sluggish, fighting the run practically the whole way, my music just wasn’t doing it for me, and I was starving (I was too busy at work today to enjoy my usual mid afternoon snack, and hadn’t yet had dinner) … luckily it was only a short run!
